Exeter is a Cathedral City and the County Town of Devon in Southwest England. Situated on the River Exe and approximately 36 miles northeast of Plymouth, Exeter was established in Roman Britain as the base of Legio II Augusta under the personal command of Vespasian. Exeter became a religious centre in the Middle Ages with Exeter Cathedral being founded in the 11th Century.

Exeter became an affluent centre for the wool trade, and although it suffered decline during the world wars now Exeter is a centre for education (with Exeter University), business and tourism in Devon and Cornwall.
