Peter Harper is a Crown Court Caseworker and Police Station Representative, based in our Cardiff and Bridgend branches.

Prior to Reeds, Peter worked for David and Snape for 48 years and Redkite Solicitors for 13 month both in Bridgend. In both of these roles, Peter advised clients in the police station, prepared case for the Magistrates’ Court and the Crown Court, which would include where appropriate applying for legal aid/or discussing and agreeing fees on a private basis. During his time with David and Snape he worked alongside the two senior partners one of whom became one of the first Solicitor Crown Court Recorder and the other being a Magistrates’ Court District Judge sitting in the Birmingham area.

For approximately the last 16 years at David and Snape Peter ran their Crown Court Department. This would include taking client’s instruction and comments upon the prosecution evidence, interview lay witnesses, and find and instruct expert witnesses and in legal aid matters obtaining prior authority to incur the fees of the experts. Peter has a wealth of experience in preparing Briefs for Barristers in Crown Court matters, He also drafts Defence Case Statements and corresponds with clients throughout the case as well as preparing Notices of Appeal, whether it be conviction or sentence, from Magistrates’ Court to Crown Court, and from the Crown Court to the Criminal Appeal Courts in London.

As Peter is a Police Station Representative, he has advised Client’s at the police station and had conduct of their cases through to conclusion on all kinds of matters in police station from common assaults to murders.

Peter has been involved in a number of high-profile case such as the murder of Logan Mwangi in July 2021 where he advised the Client in the police station and prepared the case for Trial in the Cardiff Crown Court.

Peter in the same year also advised and had conduct of the defence case in the death of Reid Steele who drowned in the bath. His mother was convicted of manslaughter.

Peter is always truthful when speaking with clients about the seriousness of the matter they are involved in, whilst also reassuring them that he and the team are doing all that they can to assist.
