Abi Hogsden has recently joined our Private Crime Team as a Caseworker where she assists with the preparation of cases at all stages, working closely with a number of our other Caseworkers, Litigators and Barristers. Abi joined Reeds as we emerged from ‘Lock-down’, initially working in our Complex Crime Team, and quickly progressed within the firm such that she is now in the role ‘of her legal dreams’ as a valued Caseworker. Abi is involved with a full range of case-working tasks, including instructing and liaising with medical and forensic experts, liaising with clients, taking statements and collating evidence and undertaking outdoor clerking such as CCTV reconnaissance and collection. Abi has been part of developing a dedicated Appeals Team within the firm, where she has deployed her excellent organisational skills, and is currently assisting with several cases in this area, including a successful appeal [see below, notable cases].
Prior to joining Reeds, Abi, had a job history rich in customer service. Solving problems and finding the best resolution for her customers has helped prepare her for aiding our clients when they are facing a difficult (if not the worst) time in their lives. Abi consistently seeks to provide a high quality of work, meeting and exceeding the expectations of not only the clients but also her team.
Abi Hogsden is committed to client care and undertakes all her work with genuine dedication and passion. She has a naturally enquiring mind and will invest fully in her cases, often coming up with innovative and proactive solutions to problems. Notable Cases
F v Rex – Appeal Against Conviction (January 2024): 15 year-old convicted of sexual assault, after a lengthy and complex appeal process, involving psychological expert evidence (obtained for the first time on appeal) and the deployment of successful s.76/78 argument (not deployed at trial), conviction successfully overturned after extensive work and preparation such that the young person involved now has a clean record and is able to re-start his adult life.
GM v Rex – Appeal Against Conviction (April 2024): Appeal lodged, involving multiple deficiencies in legal directions and fresh evidence.
JS v Rex – Appeal Against Sentence (March 2024): Appeal lodged in respect of sentence on multiple allegations of GBH (originally charged as Attempted Murder).
IB v Rex – Appeal Against Sentence (February 2024): Appeal lodged in respect of sentence on domestic GBH.
