Sian Hukin is a Trainee Solicitor working in our complex crime team in Manchester. She is currently completing the final stages of her training to become qualified as a solicitor.

Sian primarily works in supporting others in her team with casework. She is also currently training to become an Accredited Police Station Representative.

Prior to joining Reeds, Sian worked as a Trainee Solicitor at Stokoe Partnership Solicitors in Manchester. During her time there, Sian was responsible for the day to day upkeep of a complex VHCC case. In this, she worked closely with the client and two experienced barristers and attended court, took detailed notes and created documents to present evidence at trial.

As well as this, Sian undertook casework on a variety of different matters under the supervision of the rest of her team. She liaised with clients, experts, counsel and courts on a daily basis as well as assisting with administrative tasks.

Sian has also worked as an Investigator at the Financial Ombudsman Service where she was required to impartially investigate complaints against financial businesses. She conducted research, interacted with all involved parties, evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of evidence and she wrote detailed views detailing the fair outcome of the case.

In addition to these, Sian held volunteering positions at Greater Manchester Law Centre and Kent Law Clinic. There, she worked in collaboration with JENGbA and the Prisoner’s Advice Service.

Sian is passionate about accommodating and supporting vulnerable clients. She carefully tailors her interactions with clients to be mindful of how any mental health issues (such as disabilities or neurodivergence) may impact their communication needs.

Sian puts empathy at the centre of her work and aims to make clients feel listened to and respected throughout their engagement with the Criminal Justice System.

She is diligent and doggedly driven to challenge injustice and fight for her clients’ best interests.

Sian is also a committee member of Young Legal Aid Lawyers and sits as a member of the Criminal Legal Aid Advisory Board.

She received the Brachers Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Access to Justice by a Kent Law Clinic Student in 2016 and received the Social Sciences Faculty Prize in 2016.
