Lucy Astley is a Solicitor in our complex crime department based in Manchester. She is regularly instructed in the most serious crimes including murder, manslaughter and rape. In recent times, she has been instructed in large scale drugs conspiracies, including “EncroChat” cases.
Lucy is able to process large amounts of material quickly and identify the relevant issues. She is able to explain complex issues to vulnerable clients in a manner which can be easily understood.
Lucy has a strong reputation for excellent client care. She has the ability to see a case from start to finish. She is an Accredited Police Station Adviser and an experienced Magistrates Court Advocate. She has extensive experience in preparing complex cases for trial in the Crown Court. Lucy is particularly experienced in dealing with complex matters in the Magistrates Court. Including Youth Court matters and dangerous dog offences.
She has previously worked at two reputable law firms before joining Reeds. After completing her law degree, she completed the Bar Professional Training Course. She has since qualified as an Accredited Police Station Adviser, Solicitor, and a Duty Solicitor.
Lucy accepts instructions both under the Legal Aid Scheme and on a private basis.

R v S 2022
Lucy defended a young male accused of a “single punch manslaughter”. The Defendant was acquitted of manslaughter on the grounds of self-defence.
R v G 2023
Lucy successfully defended a male accused of raping his partner. The Defendant was acquitted at trial.
R v G 2023
Lucy successfully defended a male for a number of firearms offences. He was acquitted at trial.
R v Y 2023
Lucy represented a young woman accused of murdering her partner. Lucy was part of the team of lawyers who successfully argued that a plea to manslaughter on the basis of loss of self control should be accepted. The Defendant was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months imprisonment.
