Reeds Solicitors have achieved another outstanding result in an Encrochat case. The case was heard before Reading Crown Court. Our client was represented by Julian Richards, the Head of Complex Crime at Reeds Solicitors, and very ably assisted by Atalanta Sanders.

Operation Somersault – Conspiracy to Supply Cocaine and Transferring Criminal Property

Our client was prosecuted as part of Operation Somersault, an investigation by Thame Valley Police’s Serious Organised Crime Unit. The group was said to have supplied over 150kg of cocaine nationally within the 10 week period of the Encrochat “hack”.
Our client was charged with conspiring to supply cocaine and transferring criminal property.
It was alleged that she acted as a banker for the group. Her alleged responsibilities included the storage, counting, packaging the delivery of cash. There was evidence that she acquired within this role a safe and a vacuum pack machine, the bags for which needed to be big enough for £50,000 bundles. There was evidence that one collection alone from her was in the sum of £102,000.

Crown Agrees to Only Pursue Money Laundering Offence

As a result of representations made on our client’s behalf, the Crown agreed to proceed only with the money laundering offence.
 
Through a combination of the basis of plea drafted and the material obtained by for the purposes of mitigation, the Judge was persuaded to impose a sentence of 12 months’ imprisonment suspended for 24 months.
