Recent and notable cases
Meghan secured a suspended sentence with just 20 days RAR at Inner London Crown Court, for a young client charged with ABH and GBH. Advising the client to apply for a Goodyear indication on the first day of trial, provided clarity in outcome and allowed the client to make an informed decision to plead guilty. This resulted in avoiding a custodial sentence. Following just one day at court, the client was free to leave and continue her life.
Meghan advocated for a conditional discharge and opposed the imposition of a football banning order, for a young, aspiring footballer charged with possessing a flare at a football match. After thorough preparation and advocacy, the Magistrates opted not to impose an FBO even where they are usually ‘obliged’ to following conviction for a football related offence. This result was the best possible outcome for the client and the lowest penalty he could be awarded with the conditional discharge resulting in no sentence being imposed.
Meghan assisted in a two week, high-profile murder trial at the Old Bailey, where the client was acquitted of murder and found guilty of manslaughter. The client did not deny fatally stabbing the victim and the victim was found to have no weapon on him at the time.
